The fire-footed rope squirrel, also known as the black-bellied tree squirrel, is a species of tree squirrel native to parts of Central and South America. It gets its name from the fiery orange-red coloration on its feet, which contrasts with its black fur and white belly.
These squirrels are adept climbers and spend much of their time in the trees, where they forage for fruits, seeds, and nuts. They are also known to eat insects and small vertebrates.
Fire-footed rope squirrels are typically solitary animals and are most active during the early morning and late afternoon. They build nests in tree cavities or leafy nests made of branches and leaves.
While not considered endangered, the fire-footed rope squirrel is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and human development. Conservation efforts are being made to protect their natural habitats and ensure their survival.
